"I don't believe in Chiropractic.." // Frequently Asked Question (or statement in this case!)

“I don’t believe in Chiropractic”

We hear this all the time! And from both sides - those who ‘believe’ and those who don’t!

First of all, Chiropractic isn’t a religion or a faith - it’s not based off of a ‘belief’ system. Rather, the profession is described as a ‘science and an art.’ A form of medicine that is drug free and non-invasive for common musculoskeletal issues like joint pain, headaches, and overall discomfort that everyone experiences at some point in their life.

With that being said I’d rather have you understand Chiropractic compared to "‘believe in it.’

So here are a few questions to see if we’re on the same page with how a Chiropractor may help you..

  1. Do you understand that you only get one body to live in and this body’s ‘feeling’ of wellness depends on what we put into it or do with it neurologically? YES? Good. Then you agree with nearly every physiology text book ever written.

  2. Do you understand that Movement can be a form of Medicine? That the better you move the better you feel? And the better you feel the better you move? Great! Then you agree with nearly every movement coach or health professional in the world.

  3. Do you understand that in order to feel your best and eliminate your symptoms you must address WHY the issues got there in the first place? To attack the culprit rather than the victim? To not just put a bandaid on your feelings? AWESOME. Then you agree with our clinic Mantra “Fix the Why.”

So you agreed with those three points? Then you understand what Chiropractic means to US. No, this isn’t the definition you’ll find in Webster’s Dictionary. But this is our definition and how we work within Minnesota Movement.

But I heard that Chiropractors aren’t real Doctors? That you got your education from a mail-in pamphlet?

Yes, the profession is new-ish when compared to modern medicine. But just like Modern Medicine, we’re learning from research and evidence more and more. I mean, it wasn’t that long ago that modern medicine was using frontal labotomies to address mental health issues. Thankfully research stepped in and changed that!

As a matter of fact..

Some of our favorite patient cases come from those who don’t ‘believe’ in chiropractic.

  • These kinds of patients come in all huff and gruff because their spouse forced them to make an appointment and lo and behold they leave the office feeling a LOT better.. Even though they didn’t ‘believe’ it was going to work.

  • A lot of times, Chiropractic is a patient's last resort because they have tried everything. This is one of my favorite scenarios, because no other profession is trained to do what a chiropractor does - so if they have a chiropractic condition then in theory we are the only people who can help!

Still don’t believe?

Just because you may not ‘believe’ in something doesn’t mean that it can’t be beneficial for you. Chiropractic, like most other forms of health care or medicine, works only if you do it for the right reasons and if warranted, consistently (which doesn’t mean constantly.. But that’s another topic for another day!)
