We Are ALL Athletes!

What is an athlete?

This may be an easy question for some people to answer. It could mean somebody who plays sports. It could be someone who excels at a certain sport or is great at multiple different sports. For me, it is a bit of a loaded question. I personally define an athlete as a person who has risen to the top of their respective field. And that field could be their sport, profession, or hobby.

Just because you don’t get paid millions of dollars to play a sport does not make you un-athletic! Say for example you look at a hockey player. Their “job” is to be good at hockey and they train for it with practices, physical activity, and a healthy diet. Now, look at a painter. Their “job” is to be good at painting and should train for it with practice, physical activity, and proper nutrition as well, no?

Also, you don’t see many pro athletes playing professionally in other sports leagues, right? They use all their time and focus to be the best at the sport that they play.

And what does an everyday human do? We focus on our one career path, using our time to learn the skills to be the best we can be at it! This, my friends, is why I truly believe that everyone is an athlete. What we do repetitively on a daily basis, whether it is playing a sport or showing up to work, is our sport and we need to be in the best shape in order to perform at our highest level.

If you hurt sitting at a desk and you work at a desk, you can’t perform well. If you hurt skating and you are a hockey player, you can’t perform well. IT’S THE SAME THING!
